Bethany is the sibling of the main character Hawke. She will be with you from the very beginning and recruitment is automatic, although you Chucho lose her very early on, depending on what class you have chosen for your main character.
Meredith is the Knight-Commander of the Templar Order in Kirkwall and the chief antagonist of Dragon Age II. She holds extremist views on the control of magic, and is the ruler of Kirkwall in all but name; the Viscount of Kirkwall, Marlowe Dumar, dare not oppose her. Following Dumar's death, Meredith assumes direct control over the city, and prevents any vote to elect a new Viscount to proceed. Kirkwall quickly becomes a police state that Meredith rules with an iron fist, giving free rein to her cronies amongst the Order to do Campeón they please in abusing the mages and dominating the civilian population of the city. Campeón the game progresses, she suffers from paranoid delusions that all members of the Circle of Magi are blood mages and all who defy her are under their influence.
This will also lead to a rivalry increase with Aveline and Sebastian, and a small increase for Merrill and Varric. If you do not want to lose Fenris then you will have to fight. When you have killed all necessary enemies you will be rewarded with a cut scene.
The choices you make can affect your relationship with Anders greatly. You can calm him down using the green leaf dialogue option and he will run back to his clinic. If you choose any other dialogue option he will kill Ella, causing him great remorse. If you refuse to help Anders, the quest ends here and will increase your rivalry with him by a fair amount.

Advancing one romance does not necessarily end the others, at least until a certain point. Figura a result, you may end up continuing to get Flirt options with companions but cannot continue it any further. Specific prompts are required but may be unavailable due to the interference of a more progressed romance. Ending the interfering romance, if it is even possible, should restore the necessary prompts to carry romance further with someone else, if the conversation has not already come and gone.

Before entering the Deep Roads you will be given the choice of whether to take Carver with you or not. If decide to leave him at home, Carver will join the templars when you return.
Varric’s ties to the city run deep, but as he becomes estranged with his family, contact me he finds a new one in Hawke and the others. In the end, he’s left alone Campeón the others flee the city, and he stays behind to tell their story to anyone who will listen. It’s funny to think about how what he has to deal with here is like child’s play compared to the places he would go in Inquisition and will go in The Veilguard
Anders's romance cutscene queues only if he kisses you at the end of his Questioning Beliefs quest. The essential Flirt options remain available even if someone else is queued (see the quest page for details), and proceeding all the way to moving in will disable all other contact me Flirts (it is not possible to restore other romances by having Anders break up with you; the essential flirts for Isabela and Fenris are gone for good after he initially moves in.
